Lygra means "The light island", referring to the open cultural landscape and view over the two fjords on either side. Far from the big city`s «hustle and bustle» here you`ll find the perfect place to enjoy peace and simple pleasures.
The island carries along history back to the Bronze Age and in Viking times Lygra was located in the center of the shipping passage to and from Bergen. The area on and around Lygra Gjestegard has been awarded the UNESCO Prize for the Preservation of Cultural Landscapes.
The guesthouse at Lygra Gjestegard is originally a completely restored sheriff`s house (lensmannshuset) from 1770, a unique building that is locally known for its charm and warmth. We rent out all year round for everything from company trips, weddings, confirmations, yoga retreats, holiday guests etc.
“Lensmannshuset” has been rebuilt and completely restored for rental purposes and now contains, among other things, 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, large dining room for 20+ people, full kitchen with dining table, living room with fireplace, large outside terrace etc. The house is located at the end of a cul de sac, at the far end of the island Lygra (about 1 hour north of Bergen).
100m below the guesthouse you will find the Lyngheisenteret.
