Mjølfjell Mountain Lodge is located at the top of Raundalen, a spectacular dale between the Hardangerfjord and the Sognefjord. Residing alongside one of Norway’s most stunning free running rivers, famous around the world for its kayak and rafting opportunities and its breathtaking green waters, you have the time to reflect on the better sides of life. The river is protected and has kept its natural beauty.
You can access the lodge either by train, car or bus. The Bergen railway runs alongside the Lodge; it is only a short hike to the entrance from the train stop. Alternatively, you can experience the beautiful drive alongside the river up from Voss, which takes 45 minutes.
The lodge was built in 1939 and has four main buildings that can accommodate up to 130 people. There is a large venue for gatherings of up to 150 people. Large common areas available to the guests include; A beautiful fireplace with wall paintings from Frithjof Nansen’s life, a library with a fireplace and games for the whole family or group, a cozy café where you can eat traditional Norwegian waffels or enjoy the lodge’s home roasted coffee, the dining area with views over the river and mountains and the large terrace overlooking the river where your hosts barbecue local lamb as often as they can.
The lodge is built from wood and brick in Norwegian country style, creating a great atmosphere for your vacation, meeting, exhibition or conference. There are scenic hiking paths around the lodge, with beautiful waterfalls and stunning lakes. You can rent canoes, fishing rods and bicycles or just bring a lunch pack from the breakfast buffet and go out on a hike for the day. During the winter you can access prepared ski-trails right outside the door, taking you up to the mountain plateau. The area around the lodge is one of the best ski-terrains in the south of Norway. There are several mountain tops accessible within one hour of hiking our touring from the Lodge. We have hiking trails for all levels. You can visit Myrdal and the famous Flåm railway in ten minutes by train from Ørneberget, which is the lodge’s own train stop. It is also possible to take a day trip Finse and see large glaciers. Within 35 minutes by train you are in Voss.
The Lodge offers an outside swimming pool with a fantastic mountain view and an adjacent barbeque area for memorable poolside gatherings. Combined with the indoor sauna you are in for a treat. Breakfast and dinner is served every day. We can also arrange lunch indoor or outdoor at your request. We use local fresh food and serve traditional Norwegian dishes. Our breakfast is classic Norwegian style with freshly baked bread and newly roasted coffee from our own coffee-roastery (www.vosskaffebrenneri.no). On the weekends we serve thin crusted pizza from our wood fired pizza oven. If you have caught mountain trout, you are free to use our smoker oven or the barbecue to make your own food outside. We also have a separate kitchen you can use if you want to make your own dinners. We offer discounts for groups.
