Museum Vest consists of 7 museums in and around Bergen, covering themes such as Hanseatic history, coastal culture & heritage and World War II.

THE HANSEATIC MUSEUM AND SCHØTSTUENE
A TIME TRAVEL THROUGH THE HISTORY OF BRYGGEN.
At Bryggen in Bergen you will find the only authentic Hanseatic museum in the world. Learn about 400 years of history, trade and merchants in the unique building dating from 1704. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the museum boasts the original interiors from the Hanseatic era. From May 2019 the Schøtstuene will present new exhibitions and various tours for groups as the main building will be closed for restoration.

NORWEGIAN FISHERIES MUSEUM
WHERE THE HISTORY OF FISHERIES COMES ALIVE.
Bergen’s latest attraction, just 5. minutes from Bryggen. Discover modern exhibitions in authentic warehouses as old as Bryggen itself. Learn about the treasures of the sea, our shared marine resources and life in Norwegian fishing communities through the ages. Trail for children, games and family activities, rowing boat and kayak hire. Our cosy café
offers lunsch and dinner for groups with some of the best sea views in Bergen. Small veteran boat runs from Bryggen every day during summer.

THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF ØYGARDEN
LIFE BY THE SEA.
In a beautiful setting facing the ocean, the museum gives visitors an insight into how people on the coast have lived and worked through the ages – from hunting to fishing and farming, from peat cutting to oil and gas. The museum café offers a beautiful view. Visit the fish farm by RIB boat or the oil and gas facilities at Kollsnes by bus.

HERDLA MUSEUM
CLOSE TO NATURE AND WAR HISTORY.
At the very tip of the Askøy archipelago lies the moraine island of Herdla with its’s rich bird life. The easily accessible and beautiful landscape makes the island a perfect destination for various outings, suitable for everyone. Starting at the museum, you will be able to see a WWII fighter plane and follow a guided tour of a complete torpedo battery from the Cold War.

FJELL FORTRESS
THE FORTRESS ON THE MOUNTAIN.
Descend 14 meters into the cannon well for a guided tour of the underground tunnels and exhibitions. The fortress was built as part of the Atlantic Wall in 1942–1945 by the German occupying forces to protect the seaward approach to Bergen. Fjell Fortress is located in a popular recreation area, and the café Kanontårnet is a popular destination for the whole family.

THE NORTH SEA TRAFFIC MUSEUM
WHEN THE NORTH SEA WAS THE GATEWAY TO FREEDOM.
Overlooking the picturesque village of Telavåg, the museum tells the powerful story that unfolded here during WWII. The people of Telavåg played a key role in the resistance effort.
In 1942 they were exposed by the Gestapo, with dramatic consequences for the village and its residents. Panoramic café.

BJØRN WEST
SECOND WORLD WAR GUERILLA BASE.
The museum owes its name to a Norwegian guerrilla group which had its headquarters in the hills around Matre. The museum offers a fine collection of authentic weapons and artillery and gives an impression of the extreme conditions under which the soldiers lived and operated.
